Description
Keeping Children Safe in Education states all staff working with children should receive appropriate safeguarding and child protection training at induction and be regularly updated.
This course will help frontline workers to understand their responsibilities and offers a fully comprehensive approach to ever-changing safeguarding and child protection challenges. Incorporates guidance from part 1, part 5 and Annex B of KCSiE, Working Together to Safeguard Children and the latest targeted best practice guidance. The course ensures all learning styles are engaged through embedded videos and scenario-based workshops that promote interaction and discussion
Our 2-hour whole school session has been designed to ensure staff and volunteers are empowered in their role to confidently support the children in their care and contribute effectively to creating a safe and effective whole school safeguarding culture.

Course Outline

Clarify roles and responsibilities, ensuring commitment to providing a safe environment with a child-centred approach.

Identify children who may benefit from early help, understand the process and staff role within it.

Understand the process for making referrals to local authority children’s social care and for statutory assessments under the Children Act 1989, including section 17 and section 47.

Know what to do if a child discloses abuse, exploitation or neglect, and understanding the barriers to disclosure.

Understand that harm can happen inside and outside of the school/home and online, and that using professional curiosity to recognise the signs and indicators of abuse, exploitation and neglect, including disguised compliance and domestic abuse, is essential.

Develop a broader understanding of the signs and indicators of child sexual abuse.

Consider whether children are at risk of extra-familial abuse or exploitation including sexual abuse, criminal exploitation, serious violence, county lines and radicalisation.

Increase knowledge of child-on-child abuse (including online) and clarify the response to incidents.

Recognise the impact of adverse childhood experiences and the importance of identifying mental health concerns.

Implement continuous vigilance within the setting and the confidence to act on any concerns about safeguarding practices or the behaviour of other adults.

Optional Extras

Delegate online assessment which provides your mechanism to evidence your staff/volunteer understanding of the training content and their safeguarding responsibilities. Individual assessments are collated to provide a management report with RAG review to evidence all delegates understanding and identify any gaps in knowledge or individual concerns.
