Whether you are the DSL taking the lead responsibility for safeguarding within your school, part of SLT, governor or a member of the safeguarding team who are providing safeguarding support and advice. You will be more than aware of the sensitivity of some on the conversations you have to hold, whether that be with the child, families, staff or safeguarding partners. Having a difficult conversation is never easy, but by using proven techniques and developing key skills safeguarding leads can take control of the conversation and prevent them from turning what needs to be a constructive situation to a negative and often stressful and uncomfortable one.
This 3-hour session will take safeguarding leads, pastoral teams and anyone who may be subjected to having difficult safeguarding conversation to effectively manage difficult safeguarding conversations.
Aims are to:
Support you to implement an alternative approach to having those difficult safeguarding conversations, allowing you to be yourself, whilst generating positive outcomes and buy-in from others and to:
- Identify why we view some safeguarding conversations as ‘difficult’.
- Identify your own personal barriers.
- Understand the effect and power of emotions on communication.
- Learn key tips and strategies for managing successful feedback and conversations in safeguarding situations
