Description
GOVERNOR/TRUSTEE: STATUTORY STRATEGIC SAFEGUARDING
Are you confident and assured that your governing board, management committee or trustees have the essential knowledge and tools needed to confidently oversee and challenge safeguarding practices within your setting?
Keeping Children Safe in Education (KCSiE) states that governing bodies and proprietors have a responsibility to
- ensure that they comply with their duties under legislation and have regard to guidance
- ensure safeguarding policies procedures in their schools are effective and comply with the law at all times
- have a senior board level lead to take strategic leadership responsibility for their school’s wider safeguarding arrangements (Nominated Safeguarding Governor)
All trustees and governors should receive appropriate safeguarding and child protection training (including online safety) at induction. This knowledge equips them to provide effective strategic challenge and seek assurance that safeguarding policies and procedures are working in practice, supporting a robust whole-school approach to safeguarding.
Therefore, they should understand (as appropriate) the latest versions of:
- Keeping Children Safe in Education
- Working Together to Safeguard Children
- Statutory Framework for Early Years
- Academy Trust Governance Guide or Maintained Schools Governance Guide
- Special educational needs (SEN) and disabilities: guidance for school governing boards
- Education Act 2002
- Education (Independent Schools Standards) Regulations 2014
- Non-Maintained Special Schools (England) Regulations 2015
This interactive course, with scenarios and discussion sections will support trustees, nominated safeguarding governors and the wider Board to understand their roles and responsibilities to ensure organisational compliance.
